This fall has been . . . busy? great? crazy? As I sit here on the eve of Thanksgiving break, I can’t quite find an adequate adjective. Here are the main things I’ve been up to:
- Filming a web series! (along the lines of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries). It’s a Shakespeare adaptation written by two fellow English majors from my alma mater. I think it’s brilliant, and I’ve had the best time being Ophelia (talk about a bucket list item. I’ve wanted to play Ophelia since I read Hamlet at 16). We filmed almost every weekend, and had our promotional photo shoot on Sunday. Hopefully there will be a showing party in December where I can reunite with my sweet and funny cast mates. I’ve laughed so much this fall, and it was lovely to immerse myself in acting again.
- Applying to Ph.D. programs in English Literature! I’ve applied to 11 schools, and am praying and crossing my fingers that I get in to one of my choices. Honestly, I think that I would be happy at any of the schools, so here’s hoping I just get in. I am giddy with geeky excitement at the prospect of writing papers and having access to a university library again. I’m also thankful for the encouragement of my dad and husband, whose dreams for me are bigger than my own, and for the support and encouragement of two professors. I have had so much support during the application process, and I feel convinced that this is what I’m supposed to do – be a professor. Now comes the hard part . . . waiting.
